Road Trip Essentials

Before you gas up and head to the car for your next travel experience, there are definitely some road trip essentials you need. Road trips are such a great way to travel because you can go at your own pace and also take breaks when you need to. To help not only make your travels easier, but also more fun, I created a list of the best road trip necessities.

  • Sunglasses

I always keep a pair of sunglasses in my purse, even if it looks grey and dull when I leave the house, because it is inevitable that the sun will come out for an hour or two, at least, and I’ll regret it if I don’t have them. Driver or Passenger, nobody likes to squint when they’re in the car.

  • Phone chargers/USB cord

A portable charger is essential. Even when you are not going on a road trip!

  • Hat

The sun is incredibly strong and if you have dark hair or feel the heat easily, then a hat is a must. This is even more important for men with perhaps not so much hair. Stylish and functional, make sure you have something to cover your eyes and protect your skin on an extra sunny day.

  • Travel Medical Kit

Basic supplies such a Band-Aids, bandages, antiseptic and safety pins can be invaluable when the closest town is 100km away!

  • Flashlight

In case the car battery dies in the dead of the night. Buy two. It means you’ll have a spare.

  • Large Reusable Water Bottles

If you get stranded, staying hydrated is crucial. Keep a couple of large bottles in the car in case of emergencies. And on warm days on a summer road trip.

  • Toilet Roll

Don’t get caught short in an un-stocked rest stop!

  • Portable Wi-Fi

For those that doesn’t have great roaming plans/options in the destination you are in, a portable Wi-Fi device can be a necessity if you need to stay connected to the outside world.

  • Full gas in the car
  • Air freshener for car
  • Packed fun for the journey

Snacks are always good. If you’re prone to being hangry (that’s angry when you’re hungry) it may be best for all parties to keep a stock of energy bars or granola bars in the car for emergencies. Snacks are true travel essentials and the perfect road trip food!

  • Road trip playlist

It’s one of my top musthave essentials for a long car ride and you can even throw in some audio books for a bit of variety! You can download thousands of songs on your smartphone.  Then plug into your entertainment systems and you will have ALL the music you love to hear!   I mean serious, what’s a road trip without music.

  • Atlas

There have been so many times that our cell phones have no signal, we pull out the atlas!

  • Umbrella or waterproof jacket
  • Sunscreen

Yes, you can absolutely get sunburned from a car window and the sunroof. So slather it on and protect your skin from those harmful rays.

  • Towel
  • Download a movie or a TV show
  • Lipstick
  • License and registration

Obvious. Do NOT leave home without them. They are the ultimate road trip essentials!

Honestly I can’t wait for my next ROAD TRIP
