Things to do in your city on christmas break

The true essence of a country does not lie in the busy, noisy, polluted streets of the city, but in the small towns and villages, and in the woodlands and lakes.

Day 2 ✌

Imagine living in a country like Haiti, tropical climate not very cold in winter and friendly people. So why London, Paris or New York are on everyone bucket list this christmas?

If you are in Haiti right now, don’t stay too long in Port-au-Prince, take a quick trip in some of the beautiful rural areas of the country.

Personally, i like to abandon the big city from time to time and head to the countryside, the reasons are multiple : it’s incredible peaceful, people are friendlier, it’s likely to be cheaper and it’s isolating, no blue light for a while, we sleep earlier but most importantly we can feel the pollution reduction.

Let me help you find all of the best things to do in your city this christmas. Firstly, last week i had a long car trip in the south of Haiti (Cayes) precisely in Port-a-Piment.

WanOnTheRoad , december 2020 Port-a-Piment

8 in the morning, we took a taxi and ask the driver to drop us off the bus station of Cayes (Portail Leogane). Once there, we did not sure on what to do, 15 minutes later we decided to take a “Pappadap” mini bus of 12 or 13 people.

9 AM we left Port-au-Prince. It was a 3 hours trip. But fun!

Around noon, we were at Quatre-Chemins, Cayes. We stayed for a while there and at 3PM, we took another bus for Port-a-Piment at the bus station of “la kot”. It’s a 5 minutes walk from Quatre-Chemins.

Quatre-Chemins

At 5PM we arrived at Port-a-Piment a small town of 2 communal sections famous for the cave Marie Jeanne an underground formation of 60 million years. The biggest of the caribbean.

We stayed at my grand mother house, an old house of more than 60 years destroyed by hurricane matthew in october 2016.

In the next morning, i woke up to the sound of the birds singing, the idyllic sound of pure peace and quiet, so at 11 AM i decided to tour this beautiful town.

Haiti is a stunning country with plenty potential and this christmas it is the best time to take a break of the big city (Port-au-Prince) and visit the other side of our country.
